Introduction Of Spindle Motor

The spindle motor, also called the motor spindle, is an important component of many modern machine tools and industrial robots. Since the motor drives the spindle directly with this spindle drive and there is no gearbox or V-belt for translation, the motor spindle is also referred to as a direct drive.

Spindle is for short of High Frequency Spindle, also referred to as "direct drive spindle" sometimes, which is part of built-in type motor. It shortens the length of main drive chain of machine tools into zero, to achieve "zero transmission" of machine tool, featured compact, high mechanical efficiency, which can perform excellent in high speed rotary, high precision of rotary, low noise, little vibration etc. Therefore, electric spindle have more and more wide application in modern CNC machine tools. In foreign countries, electric spindle has become a high-tech product of mechatronics, produced by professional factories with high technical level, such as Fischer in Switzerland, GMN in Germany, Precise in the United States,Gamfior in Italy, NSK in Japan etc.

Combination of spindles motor

Rotating parts of the spindle motors are rotor (spindle) and platter carrier (hat) with a permanent magnet on itself. Stator core is rigidly tied to the hard drive casing. Before, ball bearings were used, while now, almost exclusively fluid bearings secure rotation of HDD spindle motors.
1. The structure of Spindle
Spindle comprises motor without shell, main spindle, bearings, shell of spindle unit, drive module and cooling devices etc. The rotor of motor incorporate with main spindle by pressure-fit. The main spindle is supporting by bearings frond and behind. The stator is fit in the shell of main spindle unit through cooling coat. There is sensor of testing speed, angle at the back of spindle. The front cone hole and is installed knife.
2. Spindle bearing
Bearings are important components that affect the life and load carrying capacity of the spindle. Performance is extremely important to the functional use of the electro-spindle. At present, the main bearing of the spindle adopts ceramic ball bearing, hydrostatic fluid bearing and active magnetic bearing.
3.Cooling of Electric Spindle
The hosts we provide can be controlled by water cooling, air conditioning, ATC water cooling and ATC air conditioning. These different control principles can make our hosts be used in different applications. The control principles of the products are different, so the applications are also different.

Spindle Motor Control Principle

Water-cooled spindle motor

Water-cooled spindle motor control principle

Water cooling uses water circulation to cool the spindle as it rotates at high speeds, circulating water via an external pump into and out of the spindle's internal shell.

Air-cooled spindle motor

An automatic tool changer (ATC) is used in computerized numerical control (CNC) machine tools to improve the production and tool carrying capacity of the machine. ATCs change tools rapidly, reducing non-productive time. They are generally used to improve the capacity of the machines to work with a number of tools.

Application Of Spindle Motor

Spindle motor is usually also called high-speed motor, motor, etc. It is the core component of machine tool processing. The precision and efficiency of processing depend entirely on the factors of the spindle itself. Therefore, different types of electric spindles will be selected for different processing requirements of machine tools. The types of spindles are roughly divided into: high-speed, low-speed, air-cooled, water-cooled, automatic tool changer, double-headed shaft, pneumatic, mechanical and other types. From the application point of view, it can be divided into: milling, grinding, polishing, grinding, engraving, deburring, cutting, cutting, grinding, drilling, etc.

The performance and advantages of the spindle motor

1. The surface finish of the workpiece is greatly improved. The motor has good speed hard characteristics, and has high speed stability under load fluctuations, so that the surface finish of the workpiece can be significantly improved.
2. The transmission error is small. The length of the main transmission chain of the machine tool is zero, the motor directly drives the spindle, without any transmission error, the vibration of the spindle is significantly reduced, and the surface finish of the workpiece is significantly improved.
3. The deformation of the main shaft is small. The rotor of the motor is a rare earth permanent magnet structure, without excitation current, the rotor generates less heat, the axial stability of the spindle is good, and the machining accuracy of the workpiece is high.
4. Large power and torque. The motor is a rare earth permanent magnet synchronous motor with good power density and torque density. Compared with the asynchronous motor, under the same volume, the power and torque of the motor can be one level higher; even under the same power, because the rotor does not need excitation current, its torque is also significantly larger.
5. Rear direct drive structure design, flexible power configuration. The motor is located at the rear end of the main shaft, and the power of the motor can be freely matched with the thickness and length of the main shaft. The configuration is extremely flexible and can meet the application of various occasions where the radial space of the main shaft is limited.Spindle motor is usually also called high-speed motor, motor, etc. It is the core component of machine tool processing. The precision and efficiency of processing depend entirely on the factors of the spindle itself. Therefore, different types of electric spindles will be selected for different processing requirements of machine tools. Tips Before Using For All Spindle Motors

●The electric spindle and the frequency inverter shall be suitable for each other. The specifications and parameter settings of the inverter shall match the nominal parameters of the spindle, and it will burn the spindle if the settings are not correct

●During storage and transport of the spindle, the status of high-speed grease inside the bearing will change. The user shall run it at a low speed first by starting from the lowest speed of the spindle for 30 minutes and then 20 minutes for every 3000 rounds otherwise there will have abnormal sound noise, heat, and other phenomena, which will affect the bearing life if the spindle is started directly at a high speed. During long-term storage, the spindle shall run (at low speed)for 15-30 minutes once a week at least.

●Collet, nut, and inner taper hole shall be washed clean when installing blades on the spindle in order to avoid any impact on the precision. The blade handle shall be inserted into the collet more than 15mm.

●For daily machining, the spindle shall be warmed up, run for 15-20 minutes when the machining speed is reached, and then performs precise machining It is better to stop the spindle for two hours every day in order to recover its mechanical fatigue and prolong its lifetime.

●No knocking the end cover of the spindle. No hammering the collet and blade head when removing blades. No shocking or colliding during transport storage and using, especially the end of the spindle.

●The spindle shall run in the designated direction.

●The spindle shall be installed and fixed according to the relevant drawings and instructions.

  • Q What is a spindle in manufacturing?

    A
A spindle is a rotating shaft with a fixture for holding a tool (in the case of a milling, grinding, or drilling spindle) or a workpiece (in the case of a turning spindle).    The spindle shaft serves as a support, a positioner, and a rotary drive for the tool or workpiece.
In manufacturing, a spindle refers to a rotating component that is used to hold and rotate a tool or workpiece during machining or cutting operations.   Spindles are commonly found in machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and drill presses.   They can be motorized or manually operated and can rotate at different speeds depending on the requirements of the operation.   The spindle is typically mounted on bearings to ensure smooth and accurate rotation and may include additional features such as tool holders or collets to securely hold the tool or workpiece in place.
  • Q Where is spindle motor?

A The spindle motor is also called a high-speed motor, which refers to an AC motor with a rotational speed of 18,000-24000 rpm/min. Mainly used in wood, aluminum, stone, hardware, glass, PVC, and other industries.
  • Q What is a spindle motor?

    A
A spindle motor is an electric motor that is used to rotate a disk or other cylindrical object, such as a hard disk drive or a CD/DVD drive.   It is a key component in the operation of many electronic devices that use spinning disks for data storage or reading.   The spindle motor is responsible for driving the rotation of the disk at a consistent speed, which allows the device to read and write data accurately.   The speed of the motor is typically controlled by a feedback mechanism that ensures that it remains constant even as the load on the motor changes.   Overall, the spindle motor plays an essential role in the reliable operation of many modern electronic devices.
For those unfamiliar with what a spindle motor is, it is a motor that is designed to rotate at high speeds, most commonly used in applications such as CNC milling machines.    Like all motors, spindle motors can and will break suffering many of the same failure modes as other types of motors.
  • Q What spindle motors are used?

A Electrical motors are most commonly used as spindle drives.  Depending on the requirements on the machine tool, 4 different types of spindle motors can be employed here: Water Cooled Spindle Motor, Air Cooled Spindle Motor, CNC ATC Spindle Motor and VFD CNC Spindle Motor.
